Maori Warrior with Raven Headdress in Green Jade

This very impressive carving is expected to bring $100-300 in a December Helms Native American Auction, I wouldn't doubt it will go higher despite the atmosphere of doubt surrounding Maori carving. Many museum pieces are said to trace to German carvers and today many of the popular "Maori" pendant trinkets are from China. It would seem that the carver
of a piece from the 1970s would be known but there is no further info."Maori Jade Carving, c. 1970s. Made of translucent green jade, the item measures 4" x 3" x 2.75". Maori, New Zealand. Double-effigy carving with raven-like bird on top. Condition: Good, see images. Shipping: $14.50 w/insurance and signature." Here is the link to more images, go to the main page to see the full catalog including Olmec masks.
